Saint Anything

Saint Anything - Sarah Dessen

I guess my main issue with this book is that I honestly felt like I've read it before. No one could ever mistake a Sarah Dessen book for something else; all her books are so similar in writing and characters and story and pacing.

You've got your main character, usually a little shy or had something traumatic happen to her OR something traumatic/dramatic in her family and she has to deal with it. You've got the weird quirky friend who has strange food/school/what have you rituals. The smokin' hot love interest who is usually pretty quiet and the perfect gentlemen. Suspicious parents. A sick/dying person. A family-owned business. I've only read a few of Dessen's, but I'm guessing I must have picked the three most similar of her books.

Nothing in this book stood out as being different in any way. It wasn't more cute or funny than The Truth About Forever or even Just Listen, though it strongly reminded me of both. I kinda felt like I was reading a mash-up of the two, to be honest.

Also, Mac's mom/Dessen got the St. Anthony prayer wroooong. It's "Tony, Tony, look around. Something's lost and must be found", NOT "Tony, Tony, turn around. Something's lost and must be found."
